Understanding the NDIS and how we can help.
Understanding the NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia's national scheme for people with disability. It provides funding directly to eligible individuals based on their needs, allowing them to access the supports and services they require to live and enjoy their life.
What is the NDIS?
The NDIS is designed to support people with a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to take part in everyday activities. It focuses on providing reasonable and necessary supports to help participants achieve their goals, which might include greater independence, community involvement, employment, and improved wellbeing.
Who is Eligible for the NDIS?
To be eligible for the NDIS, you generally need to meet the following requirements:
- Be under 65 years of age when you first apply.
- Be an Australian citizen, hold a permanent visa, or a Protected Special Category visa.
- Live in Australia where the NDIS is available.
- Have a disability that is likely to be permanent (lifelong).
- Your disability substantially reduces your ability to participate effectively in activities or perform tasks unless you have assistance.
- Your disability affects your capacity for social or economic participation.
- You are likely to require support under the NDIS for your lifetime.
For detailed eligibility criteria, please refer to the official NDIS eligibility checklist.
